Parfumeur | Dmitry Bortnikov
Oud Maximus by Bortnikoff is a woody, animalic, and floral niche perfume extract, unisex, created by Dmitry Bortnikov. Five roses and four ouds: it is the house's show of strength.
A Thai house where the founder is also the perfumer
Bortnikoff is based in Thailand, in the very heart of the agarwood-producing regions. It was founded by Dmitry Bortnikov, a Russian perfumer who is both the owner and the nose of his brand, and who works with wild Thai ouds, sourcing his materials at the source. He uses genuine animal materials — deer musk, castoreum, civet, and hyraceum. The catalog is divided into four lines: Entry Level, Main Collection, Colognes, and Attars. 50 ml bottle.
An opening of bergamot, sweet orange, pink pepper, jasmine sambac, and cardamom
Bergamot and sweet orange brighten the opening, pink pepper adds tension, and cardamom provides spice. Jasmine sambac, present from the start, already announces the floral richness to come.
A heart of five roses
The Damask rose, the Himalayan rose, the Indian rose, a hybrid rose, and Attar Gulab complement each other. Around them, magnolia, frangipani, clove, and tonka bean complete a heart of rare density.
A base of four ouds and animal materials
Indian oud, Trat Oud Roots, Oud Purple Co Chang, and Sri Lankan oud form the backbone. Birch tar brings its black smoke, civet and musk their animalic quality, and Tolu balsam and vanilla their sweetness.
The house's signature
Five roses against four ouds — the most classic accord in oriental perfumery, taken to the extreme. Rose and oud have gone together for centuries; most houses use one rose and one oud. Here, each of the two sides is multiplied. The roses are not interchangeable: the Damask rose is green and honeyed, the Himalayan rose spicier, and Attar Gulab is not a rose but a process — a rose distilled directly into sandalwood oil, according to an ancient Indian method. The ouds are also not alike, and each is named after its origin. To this are added birch tar, which provides Russian leather, and civet. The title does not lie: it is a maximum.
For whom, for what occasions?
Woody, animalic, and floral, this extract is for those who know oud and want the rose-oud accord in its fullest version. It gives its best in winter, in the evening, and is equally suitable for women and men.
With Oud Maximus Bortnikoff, Dmitry Bortnikov multiplies the most famous accord in the Orient by five and four.
