Parfumeur | Philippe Paparella-Paris
Overdose by Oman Luxury is a woody aromatic citrus eau de parfum for men and women, created by Philippe Paparella-Paris. It combines five citrus fruits in the same opening.
An Omani house that calls upon master perfumers
Oman Luxury is an independent house founded in 2012 by Muatasim, Muadh and Ahmed, then relaunched in October 2020 with a new identity. Its approach is twofold: draw on Omani heritage — the incense route, spices, agarwood — and entrust the formulas to leading French perfumers, including Dominique Ropion, Marie Salamagne, Pierre Negrin, Maurice Roucel and Emilie Coppermann. One of the three founders, Muatasim Al Hinai, composes two of the collection's fragrances himself. The bottles incorporate motifs from Omani architecture and textiles.
An opening of lemon, orange, bergamot, grapefruit and mandarin
Five citrus fruits at once, each with its own role: lemon for sharp acidity, orange for sweetness, bergamot for green freshness, grapefruit for bitterness and mandarin for roundness. Black pepper, saffron and cardamom prevent them from disappearing too quickly: eight ingredients in the top notes alone.
A heart of jasmine, iris, lily and orange blossom
Orange blossom naturally extends the citrus — it is the flower of the same tree. Jasmine and lily add their whiteness, iris its dry, root-like powderiness, sage its herbal bitterness. Fig brings a green, milky fleshiness, the only fruity note in the heart.
A base of cedar, vetiver, ambergris and plum
Cedarwood and sandalwood provide the structure, vetiver its smoky root, ambergris its mineral and salty note. Musk, patchouli and tonka bean add body, while plum adds a dark fruitiness, unexpected beneath such a bright opening.
The house's signature
A citrus fragrance generally features one or two citrus fruits, because they are highly volatile ingredients that evaporate quickly. Overdose uses five, and solves the problem from the base up: the base is woody, amber and musky, with plum providing the link. The result is a citrus fragrance that lasts, something the family rarely offers. The formula contains twenty-two ingredients, with eight in the top notes, six in the heart and eight in the base — the fragrance's name says enough about its approach.
For whom, and for what occasions?
For those who love colognes but complain that they disappear within an hour. It is a spring and summer fragrance, suitable for day or evening wear, with good longevity and a clear trail. Overdose Oman Luxury is for those seeking freshness that lasts.
