The Paramour Bakhoor by Oman Luxury is an agarwood chip incense, spicy and leathery, presented in a 48 g format. It is the burnable version of the eau de parfum of the same name.
An Omani house that calls upon master noses
Oman Luxury is an independent house founded in 2012 by Muatasim, Muadh and Ahmed, then relaunched in October 2020 with a new identity. Its approach is twofold: drawing on Omani heritage—the incense route, spices, agarwood—and entrusting the formulas to leading French perfumers, including Dominique Ropion, Marie Salamagne, Pierre Negrin, Maurice Roucel and Emilie Coppermann. One of the three founders, Muatasim Al Hinai, composes two of the fragrances in the collection himself. The bottles incorporate motifs from Omani architecture and textiles.
What this bakhoor smells like
A spicy leathery scent dominated by rose, carried by oriental resins and agarwood. It is the only floral among the house's seven bakhoors, and the sweetest: it follows the leather-and-fruit direction of the Paramour eau de parfum, but in a warmer and less tart register.
Bakhoor, and how to use it
Bakhoor is an incense composed of agarwood chips infused with perfume oils and resins, then left to macerate. It is not burned with a flame: one or two chips are placed on an electric warming plate or on already-whitened charcoal, and the gentle heat releases the fragrance without carbonizing it. A few minutes are enough to perfume a room, and the scent clings to textiles for hours. In Oman, it traditionally accompanies the reception of guests in the majlis, the living room where guests are received.
The house's signature touch
Bakhoor is almost always woody, resinous, or smoky—this is what heat reveals best. Placing a rose at the heart of a burnable incense is more delicate: floral notes do not tolerate heat well and can easily turn. This one holds it with leather and resins, allowing it to remain recognizable once on the plate.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who find woody incenses too austere and are looking for a softer home fragrance. It is suitable for autumn and winter evenings, and for receiving guests. The Paramour Bakhoor by Oman Luxury is for those who want a burnable rose.
