Parfumeur | Marc-Antoine Corticchiato
Eau de Gloire by Parfum d'Empire is a unisex aromatic chypre-hesperidic eau de parfum, created by Marc-Antoine Corticchiato. It is the Corsican maquis as worn by those who have left the island.
A perfumer's house, and a return to Corsica
Parfum d'Empire is a French house founded and composed by a single man, Marc-Antoine Corticchiato: he is both its founder and nose, and signs the entire catalog. Its formula can be summed up in one sentence — perfume is a quest, perfume is an exploration — and the house claims a return to the primary meaning of perfume, that of seduction and spirituality. The catalog is divided into two: the Signature Collection and the Corsican Heritage Collection, which brings the house back to the perfumer's island of origin, from the seaside to the maquis and the mountains. The bottles in this collection feature a stylized Genoese tower, like those that have dotted the Corsican coast since the Renaissance.
An opening of bergamot, tangerine, and neroli
Tangerine and bergamot open sparklingly, one round and tangy, the other green and bitter. Neroli adds its floral water, green and slightly metallic. The opening is sober, almost austere, the opposite of any display.
A heart of wild lentisk, myrtle, rosemary, and immortelle
Wild lentisk, myrtle, rosemary, and immortelle are the four plants of the Corsican maquis, taken as they are. It is a botanical walk rather than a perfumery accord, and that is its entire uniqueness.
A base of cistus, incense, and oakmoss
Cistus brings its balsamic resin, incense its dry and peppery gum, oakmoss the humus that signs the chypre accord. The sillage remains close to the body, dry and mineral.
The house's gesture
The perfume is dedicated to the Corsicans who left the island to build empires, and the perfumer names two: his own father, who planted citrus orchards in Morocco, and Napoleon Bonaparte. Hence the construction: citrus at the head for the orchards of exile, and all the maquis behind — the house speaks of the scent of the maquis that the exiled islanders carry in their hearts.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those seeking a fresh eau of character rather than an anonymous cologne. It is a spring and summer perfume, wearable by day or at the office, with good longevity and a discreet sillage. Eau de Gloire Parfum d'Empire will suit those who love sober classics.
