Pastel Rumours by Sarah Baker is a gourmand fruity-milky eau de parfum, unisex, created by Chris Maurice. “Dreamy, fruity, milky”: the three words of the house.

A milkshake and a Vespa

Sarah Baker is a multidisciplinary artist — film, photography, installation — and the founder of the house, based in an East London studio. She entrusts each fragrance to a different nose and accompanies each with a mini-scenario written by her. For this one: “Sip a milkshake and ride off into the ether.” Pastel Rumours is the second part of the peach trilogy, with Peach's Revenge and Rococo Pie — three fragrances by the same perfumer centered around the same fruit.

An opening of peach, colored cereals and ginger

The peach opens soft and velvety. The colored cereals — “a pinch,” says the house — bring a sweet and slightly artificial breakfast note, frankly childlike. The ginger stings and prevents the whole thing from melting.

A heart of milk, cardamom and caramel

The milk envelops the peach — “a soft peach coated in blankets of milk,” writes the house. The cardamom brings a green and camphorous spice, the caramel a cooked touch. It is the heart of the fragrance in the literal sense: everything is textured rather than scented.

A base of cream biscuits, vanilla and musks

The cream biscuits — the house speaks of “crushed custard creams,” those English filled shortbreads — bring “a touch of innocence.” The vanilla rounds it out. Then the musks, which the house describes as “sensual,” hide “a surprisingly insolent side.”

The house's approach

The entire fragrance is built on textures rather than smells: milk, caramel, crushed biscuit, cereal. No flowers, no wood, no citrus. It is a rare exercise, and that is what explains that it gives less the impression of smelling something than of having your mouth full of it.

For whom, for what occasions?

For those who like unapologetic gourmands. Autumn and winter, daytime. A 50 ml unisex eau de parfum. The house does not test any products on animals and composes in compliance with IFRA, without nitromusks, colorants, phthalates or halogenated organic compounds.
