Parfumeur | Michał Gilbert Lach
Polish Potatoes by Bohoboco is an amber, woody, and floral niche eau de parfum, unisex, created by Michał Gilbert Lach. The name is no mere provocation: the potato is indeed the hero of the formula.
A house that names its fragrances after their ingredients
Bohoboco is a Polish house based in Warsaw. It was founded in 2009 as a fashion brand by designers Michał Gilbert Lach and Kamil Owczarek. A first fragrance was released in 2012, before the collection was launched in 2016 — a project in which Lach, who worked in hairdressing and then makeup before turning to fashion design, says he found his true calling. The house's signature lies in its naming convention: each fragrance is simply named after two or three of its ingredients, without a narrative or character. Sea Salt Caramel, Vanilla Black Pepper, Wild Carrot Oud — and even provocative names like Magic Mushrooms or Polish Potatoes. The first compositions were created in Grasse, and the house has been recognized by the Fragrance Foundation UK, Vogue Beauty, and Elle Style. Everything is available as a unisex 50 ml eau de parfum.
An opening of beet, wheat, pine, leather, and grass
The beet opens with an earthy sweetness, the wheat with a golden, cereal note, and the pine with a bright, resinous character. Leather and cut grass complete the picture: it is an outdoor market at dawn.
A heart of Polish potatoes, rose, heliotrope, and carnation
The potato takes center stage, earthy and surprisingly sweet. Rose and powdery heliotrope soften it, while carnation adds spice. An intimate portrait of the market ritual.
A base of earth, patchouli, birch, and resins
Eleven ingredients close the composition: earthy notes and soil tincture, patchouli, birch, oud, amber, vanilla, honey, hay, labdanum, and benzoin. The longevity is well above average.
The house's approach
A village market, every Wednesday morning. Lach built this fragrance around a specific memory: the Polish market of his childhood, which brought together local farmers and artisans every Wednesday morning — the beating heart of the local community. Hence the decision to elevate the potato, the most ordinary of vegetables, to the status of a noble ingredient. And to keep this promise to the very end, the formula contains a soil tincture — that is, macerated earth itself. With its eleven base ingredients, it also has the longest base of the entire collection. Presented at Esxence 2025.
For whom, and for what occasions?
Amber, woody, and floral, this eau de parfum is for those who love the scents of damp earth and patchouli and are looking for a fragrance that will get people talking. It is at its best from autumn through winter, with no gender distinction.
With Polish Potatoes Bohoboco, Michał Gilbert Lach pays tribute to the Polish soil.
