A fake word that means fake

FUGAZZI is a Dutch house from Amsterdam, founded in 2018 by Bram Niessink, whose imagination was sparked during a trip to Egypt with his grandfather. The name comes from fugazi, an Italian-American slang word from the 1970s meaning "fake", adopted by youth culture and movie mobsters: writing it with a double Z makes it a fake word that means fake. The house calls its approach "Storysmelling". Each formula also contains two patented odorless plant ingredients, whose combination aims to reduce feelings of nervousness and tension. The Extrait line boasts 30 to 50% fragrance oil, compared to 20% for eaux de parfum.

An opening of pomegranate and red fruits

The pomegranate opens tart and juicy, surrounded by red fruits. Bergamot provides the citrus that prevents the whole thing from smelling candied. The opening is frankly fruity, and nothing hints at what's to come.

A heart of oud and patchouli

Oud arrives in the heart, smoky and resinous, accompanied by earthy patchouli. The shift is brutal: we go from the orchard to the resin in a single step, with no intermediate material to cushion the transition.

A base of amber and vanilla

Amber warms, vanilla softens, and musk ensures longevity. The base reconciles the two halves of the perfume by giving them a common, warm, and rounded foundation.

The house's signature

Oud is in the heart, not the base. Placed at this stage, the resin arrives much earlier than in a classic oriental, and the contrast with the pomegranate is direct. The title says it bluntly, moreover — pomegranate and oudh joined together in a single word, just as the two materials are in the formula. To be smelled alongside Goudh, which takes the logic even further by placing oud in the top notes.
