The spark of a conversation

ROOM 1015 was founded in Paris in 2015 by Michael Partouche, known as “Dr. Mike”: a doctor of pharmacy and rock guitarist who left the pharmacy for perfumery. The house takes its name from room 1015 of the Continental Hyatt House on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles—the hotel nicknamed the “Riot House.” Kokoa Bang captures a moment of connection, when a scent and its raw materials give rise to ideas, conversations, and genuine emotion. The fragrance is inspired by the creative dialogue between a perfumer and an artistic director, celebrating the spark that transforms inspiration into perfume. The house sums it up in one sentence: “It’s not a gourmand. It’s a mood.”

An opening of rosé champagne, pear, and lemon

The rosé champagne accord opens with a fruity, slightly tart effervescence. The pear brings its juicy, green flesh, while the lemon adds a sharp touch that keeps the opening from becoming too heavy. A sparkling, almost fresh start that does not yet hint at chocolate.

A heart of magnolia, cacao, and mugane

The magnolia provides a creamy, luminous floral. The cacao arrives at the same time, dry and slightly bitter, more like cocoa powder than milk chocolate. The mugane, a synthetic floral molecule, brightens the composition and keeps the heart airy despite its gourmand character.

A base of myrrh, vanilla, tonka bean, and Siamese benzoin

The myrrh, a resin that is both balsamic and slightly bitter, adds depth. The vanilla and tonka bean round out the base with a warm sweetness and almond notes. The Siamese benzoin, another resin, adds a vanilla-amber note that extends the fragrance’s trail.

The house’s signature touch

Cacao is placed in the heart rather than the base. In ROOM 1015’s Wavechild, created by the same perfumer, cacao is featured in the base notes; here, it takes center stage from the very beginning, nestled between two flowers. The fragrance pyramid contains no caramel, praline, or sweet accord: its gourmand character comes from the cacao and vanilla, supported by two resins, myrrh and benzoin. This is what allows the house to describe Kokoa Bang not as a gourmand fragrance, but as a mood.
