Parfumeur | Jérôme Di Marino
Wavechild by ROOM 1015 is a unisex fruity, citrusy, amber eau de parfum, created by Jérôme Di Marino. Three citrus fruits, watermelon, coconut and ambergris: the house's tribute to surf culture.
Huntington Beach in a bottle
ROOM 1015 was founded in Paris in 2015 by Michael Partouche, known as "Dr. Mike": a doctor of pharmacy and rock guitarist, he left the pharmacy for perfume. The house, located on rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, takes its name from room 1015 of the Continental Hyatt House on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles — the hotel nicknamed the "Riot House". Wavechild, released in 2024, leaves the clubs for the beach: from the legendary Huntington Beach to the gangs of surfers and bikers, the house sees there "an electrifying mix of insolence and creativity". "Stripped to the bone", it says of its perfume: "a burst of raw and rebellious energy, from start to finish".
An opening of orange, mandarin and lemon
Three citrus fruits, not one more. The orange gives the juicy roundness, the mandarin the zesty and slightly sweet softness, the lemon the frank acidity that awakens the whole. It's full sun from the first second.
A heart of watermelon and coconut
The watermelon brings an aqueous and thirst-quenching flesh, green on the edges. The coconut answers it with a milky and waxy softness that evokes both heated skin and surfboard wax. Only two materials: it is the most recognizable part of the perfume.
A base of ambergris, amber and cocoa
The ambergris sets up a salty, mineral, slightly animal depth, which extends the water of the heart instead of cutting it. The amber warms, round and balsamic. The cocoa adds a roasted bitterness that prevents the base from becoming sweet.
The house's gesture
"The intention behind Wavechild was to compose a perfume that captures the intoxicating essence of surfing", explains Jérôme Di Marino: "its carelessness, this feeling of freedom, and the power of addiction it exerts". The construction follows the idea to the letter. Where a classic marine accord dies at the end of the race, the salty ambergris here passes the baton to the warm amber: the freshness of the start is warmed, never replaced.
For whom, for what occasions?
It is the house's summer perfume. Day, holidays, terrace, spring and especially summer, but its warm base makes it wearable all year round. Easy to love, even for a first foray into niche perfumery. The entire ROOM 1015 collection is vegan, cruelty-free and unisex.
