Parfumeur | Christian Carbonnel
Sa'adah by Anfas is a floral, woody, and vanilla niche perfume extract, unisex, created by master perfumer Christian Carbonnel. In Arabic, sa'adah means happiness and joy.
A house where every fragrance starts with an Arabic word
Anfas (أنفاس) means “breaths” in Arabic, and the house’s theme is Arab hospitality—that way of welcoming guests that, according to its founder, is something you can breathe in the Emirates. It was founded in the United Arab Emirates by Asim Al Qassim, an architect and the first certified Emirati perfumer. His method is straightforward: start with an Arabic word, trace back to the emotion it evokes, and then translate that into a fragrance formula—creating perfumes that are not inspired by Arab culture, but made from it. His architect’s eye is evident in the bottle: the rim is adorned with palm leaves depicting the sun, a flower opens in the center of the cap like a gift presented on a tray, and each bottle features an Arabic engraving. This one is signed by Christian Carbonnel, the Spanish master perfumer behind Erba Pura for Xerjoff.
An opening of orange, rose, pine, and neroli
Orange and neroli—the flower of the same bitter orange tree—open with a bright, honeyed whiteness. Rose appears right from the start, which is rare, while pine adds an unexpected resinous freshness. The opening is clear, almost springlike.
A heart of violet, cedar, and ylang-ylang
Violet brings its soft powderiness, ylang-ylang its sunny, slightly banana-like radiance, and cedar the first hint of wood. The fragrance rounds out without ever becoming heavy.
A base of sandalwood, vanilla, and tonka bean
Creamy sandalwood, vanilla, and tonka bean—with its almond and cut hay facets—close the composition with a warm sweetness. The trail remains enveloping and lasts a very long time.
The house’s signature touch
An entire tree in the same opening. Sa'adah brings orange and neroli together in the top notes: the fruit and flower of the same bitter orange tree, two ingredients that perfumery usually treats separately because their characters are so different—one zesty and cheerful, the other white and honeyed. Alongside them is pine: a forest note in an Emirati fragrance, where you might expect oud or incense instead. It is this contrast that gives Sa'adah its distinctive clarity and reflects the meaning of the word: simple happiness, not ceremony.
For whom and for what occasions?
Floral, woody, and vanilla, this perfume extract is for anyone seeking a luminous floral fragrance anchored by wood. It can be worn all year round, day or evening, by both women and men.
With Sa'adah Anfas, Christian Carbonnel has bottled the Arabic word for happiness.
