The perfumer's story

Stéphanie de Bruijn publishes a signed text for each of her creations, which she calls "The Story". For Samarcande: "I dreamed of the Silk Road and its treasures. Bergamot and Turkish rose, then oud from Laos and benzoin: it is one of the most sophisticated accords I have composed."

An opening of bergamot and pink pepper

The opening combines bergamot with pink pepper, whose berries bring a fresh rather than warm spiciness. A short and clean opening, which quickly gives way to the flower.

A heart of Turkish rose and violet

The heart names a place of origin: the Turkish rose, more honeyed and spicier than the Damask rose, accompanied by powdery violet. It is the subject of the perfume and its elegance.

A base of oud from Laos, vanilla and benzoin

The base brings together oud from Laos — a second named place of origin —, vanilla and balsamic benzoin. The sillage becomes warm and resinous, with this rounded vanilla quality that prevents the oud from being medicinal.

The house's signature

Samarcande, on the Silk Road, is the only name in the collection that comes from outside Paris. Stéphanie de Bruijn grew up in the Grasse region, studied biology, and won the ISIPCA International Young Perfumer Competition in 2001. She works with French suppliers, mainly from Grasse.
