Sea Salt Caramel by Bohoboco is a gourmand, marine and woody niche eau de parfum, unisex, created by Michał Gilbert Lach. Sea salt and caramel sit at opposite ends of the formula.
A house that names its fragrances after their ingredients
Bohoboco is a Polish house based in Warsaw. It was founded in 2009 as a fashion brand by designers Michał Gilbert Lach and Kamil Owczarek. A first fragrance was released in 2012, before the collection was launched in 2016 — a project in which Lach, having worked in hairdressing, makeup and then fashion design, says he found his true calling. The house's signature lies in its naming convention: each fragrance is simply named after two or three of its ingredients, without a story or character. Sea Salt Caramel, Vanilla Black Pepper, Wild Carrot Oud — and even provocative names like Magic Mushrooms or Polish Potatoes. The first compositions were created in Grasse, and the house has been awarded by the Fragrance Foundation UK, Vogue Beauty and Elle Style. Everything is available as a 50 ml eau de parfum, unisex.
An opening of fresh lemon, sea salt and pink pepper
Fresh lemon bursts with zest, sea salt brings its dry minerality and pink pepper its fruity spiciness. It is a gust of marine breeze, frank and determined.
A heart of jasmine, bay leaf and seaweed
Jasmine brings its creamy whiteness, bay leaf its aromatic and slightly spicy greenness, and seaweed its iodine. It is the water's edge, between the flower and the kelp.
A base of salted caramel, brown sugar and cedarwood
Salted caramel finally arrives, thick and gourmand, prolonged by brown sugar. Cedarwood dries out the whole and prevents it from becoming cloying. The sillage is soft without ever becoming heavy.
The house's approach
The two ingredients in the name never meet. The salt is at the top, the caramel all the way at the base — each at one end of the formula, with between them a heart of jasmine, bay leaf and seaweed that resembles neither. It is the wearer who makes the connection, on the skin, as the hours pass. A construction entirely based on the gap: a calm and penetrating breeze, says the house, broken by a few drops of thick caramel. It is worth noting: released in 2016, this fragrance was one of the very first to use salted caramel in perfumery — long before the trend took hold.
For whom, for what occasions?
Gourmand, marine and woody, this eau de parfum is for those who like the idea of caramel but usually find it too cloying. It is at its best from spring to summer, during the day, without distinction of gender.
With Sea Salt Caramel Bohoboco, Michał Gilbert Lach signs the most famous creation of his house.
