Parfumeur | Sidonie Lancesseur
Secret du Nil by Nectar Olfactif is a unisex, gourmand, vanilla-scented citrus perfume extract created by Sidonie Lancesseur. Its distinctive feature lies in a single construction detail: almond changes state from one layer to the next.
A house inspired by the world of bees
Nectar Olfactif is a French house founded by David Perrin, a niche perfume and travel enthusiast who has been in the perfume industry for many years. The entire brand is built around a single image: the world of bees foraging on flowers, plants, and fruit trees, and fragrances designed like the nectar they bring back. The formulas are created by perfumers from major fragrance houses—Robertet for five of the six, CPL Aromas for Cerana—and each bottle bears a golden bee seal.
An opening of bergamot, bitter orange, and bitter almond
The opening plays on bitterness. Bergamot and bitter orange provide a frank, unsweetened citrus, while bitter almond adds its green and slightly medicinal facet, that of the kernel rather than pastry.
A heart of orange blossom, neroli, roasted almond, and honey
This is where the perfume transforms. Almond returns, but roasted this time: it has cooked between the two layers. Orange blossom is present in two forms at once—orange blossom in bloom and neroli in distillation—and the honey brings its roundness. The heart is the kitchen of the perfume, in the literal sense.
A base of vanilla, icing sugar, and cedar
Vanilla and icing sugar complete the gourmand progression, while cedar and musks prevent the finish from becoming syrupy. The wood serves as a safeguard: without it, the perfume would turn into a dessert.
The house's signature touch
The perfume draws from the Nile, “the origin of whose source remains a mystery”, and the fertile land it made possible. The house links it to an ancient Egyptian custom: the bee was a royal symbol, and its honey was a drink for newlyweds—hence the expression “honeymoon”. The most subtle idea, however, lies in the formula: almond is used twice, bitter in the opening and then roasted in the heart. It is not a repetition, but a cooking process. Secret du Nil belongs to Opus N° 1, the house's first series.
For whom, and for what occasions?
For those who love gourmand fragrances that begin with bitterness rather than sweetness. It is a mid-season fragrance, wearable day or night, warm without being heavy. Nectar Olfactif's Secret du Nil will appeal to those seeking a carefully crafted almond rather than a pastry accord.
