Serenity by Oman Luxury is a spicy, leathery, woody eau de parfum, unisex, created by Pierre Negrin. It features cumin at its heart, undoubtedly the most divisive ingredient in perfumery.

An Omani house that calls upon master perfumers

Oman Luxury is an independent house founded in 2012 by Muatasim, Muadh and Ahmed, then relaunched in October 2020 with a new identity. Its approach is twofold: draw from Omani heritage — the incense route, spices, agarwood — and entrust the formulas to leading French perfumers, among whom Dominique Ropion, Marie Salamagne, Pierre Negrin, Maurice Roucel or Emilie Coppermann. One of the three founders, Muatasim Al Hinai, composes two of the perfumes in the collection himself. The bottles incorporate motifs from Omani architecture and textiles.

An opening of centifolia rose and saffron

Two ingredients, and the most classic duo in Oriental perfumery. The centifolia rose — the hundred-petaled rose, the May rose — brings its honey and depth, while saffron adds its leathery facet, slightly metallic and like cut hay. The opening is brief and gives no hint of the turn that follows.

A heart of cumin, clove, jasmine and cedar

Cumin arrives and changes everything: warm, spicy and frankly animalic, it is an ingredient that most houses avoid because it is immediately divisive. Clove adds its peppery warmth, jasmine a whiteness that softens it slightly, and cedarwood a dry dustiness.

A base of leather, oud, olibanum and praline

Leather and oud hold the finish, while olibanum resin brings its dry, peppery gum. Praline is the unexpected element: a roasted gourmand note that softens the cumin from beneath. Musk and patchouli complete the composition.

The house's signature

The title promises calm, and the formula does exactly the opposite: cumin, clove, leather and oud, four of the most insistent ingredients in the repertoire. Cumin in particular is almost absent from contemporary Western perfumery, where it is considered unwearable, even though it belongs to the daily culinary and olfactory life of the peninsula. The house moreover claims a traditional Middle Eastern style, defined by opposites: light and shadow, masculine and feminine, power and grace.
