Soma by Noème Paris is a gourmand amber vanilla eau de parfum, unisex, created by Amélie Bourgeois. Its formula contains neither fruit nor flower — only thick materials, including three absolutes.

A house that only names inaccessible places

Noème comes from the Greek noema and refers to what lies behind the subconscious: the inaccessible. The house, founded in 2018 by Yassin Karim with French-Moroccan perfumer Majda Bekkali, takes this principle to heart — its fragrances bear the names of places that man can only imagine: scorching deserts, Mexican crystal caves, oceanic depths. Yassin Karim was born in Madagascar to parents who exported spices and flowers, and grew up surrounded by warehouses filled with vanilla beans. Each fragrance has its own watercolor illustration, and the bottle bears a quote attributed to Albert Einstein: "imagination is more important than knowledge".

An opening of tonka and heliotrope absolutes

Only two materials, and neither is fresh. The tonka absolute opens with its almond-like coumarin and slight hay note, while heliotrope adds its almond and vanilla powder. The fragrance therefore begins where most end.

A heart of vanilla, caramel and cacao absolute

The heart takes gourmandness to its ultimate conclusion. Vanilla and caramel establish the cooked sugar, and the cacao absolute — an absolute, not a chocolate accord — brings its roasted bitterness. It is what prevents the whole from becoming a dessert.

A base of rum, labdanum absolute and suede

The finish changes register. Rum brings its sweet and woody side, labdanum absolute its amber resin, and suede a soft and powdery skin. This leather at the end of the journey is what gives the fragrance its gravity.

It stacks thick materials from start to finish, including three absolutes — tonka, cacao, labdanum — and closes on suede. It is a fragrance of texture rather than trajectory.
