Kohl, modesty, and two men from the world of luxury

Kajal Perfumes Paris was founded in 2012 by Moe Khalaf and Ibrahim Faris, and its first fragrance was released in 2014. Both come from the world of luxury: Ibrahim Faris started at nineteen in Jordan before becoming brand manager of the Al Tayer Group in Dubai; Moe Khalaf spent ten years at YSL Beauté, eventually heading the Saudi market, and later served as Middle East regional director at Estée Lauder. The name says it all: kajal refers to kohl in Indian culture and comes from the Arabic word khajal, meaning modesty. The house is based in Dubai, but its fragrances are primarily composed in France. Topaz belongs to the GEM collection, named after precious stones.

Black lime opens the composition: it is loomi, the sun-dried citrus fruit that has been used in Gulf cuisine for centuries—bitter and dusty, nothing like a fresh lemon. Rum oil brings the warmth of brandy, while elderflower and orange blossom provide floral clarity.

Blackcurrant, CO2-extracted, anchors the heart alongside rose absolute. Preserved lemon and cedarwood bridge the opening and the base.
