Parfumeur | Dmitry Bortnikov
Triad by Bortnikoff is a niche woody, floral, and oriental extrait de parfum, unisex, created by Dmitry Bortnikov. Its name announces the subject: three ouds from three origins.
A Thai house where the founder is also the perfumer
Bortnikoff is based in Thailand, in the very heart of the agarwood-producing regions. It was founded by Dmitry Bortnikov, a Russian perfumer who is both the owner and the nose of his brand, and who works with wild Thai ouds by sourcing his materials at the source. The catalog is divided into four lines: Entry Level, Main Collection, Colognes and Attars. 50 ml bottle.
An opening of Sri Lankan wild oud tincture
The perfume opens on a single material: Sri Lankan wild oud tincture. A tincture is a slow maceration of wood in alcohol, softer and more transparent than a distilled oil. Placing oud in the top note is already a statement.
A heart of magnolia, May rose, and two other ouds
Magnolia and May rose absolute bring floral clarity. Alongside them, Indonesian Bouya and organic Chinese oud, grown on the island of Hainan, continue the agarwood in the very heart of the composition.
A base of Thai oud, tonka bean, and Sumatran benzoin
Thai oud closes the series, tonka bean brings its almond sweetness, Sumatran benzoin its balsamic resin, and a fossil accord — which the house does not detail — adds a mineral and animal depth.
The house's gesture
Agarwood is present in all three layers, never the same. This is what the title says: a triad. Sri Lanka at the top, in the form of a tincture — the softest of the extractions; Indonesian Bouya and Hainan oud in the heart; Thai oud at the base. Four origins in total, and above all four characters: agarwood does not smell the same depending on the region, the age of the tree, and the extraction method. This perfume is therefore not just another oud, it is a demonstration of what the word encompasses. The flowers, meanwhile, are only there to illuminate: only two, against four woods.
For whom, for what occasions?
Woody, floral, and oriental, this extract is aimed at those who already know oud and want to compare its origins. It gives its best from autumn to winter, in the evening, worn equally well by women as by men.
With Triad Bortnikoff, Dmitry Bortnikov puts four agarwoods in the same bottle to show that they are not alike.
