A house that treats material like a color

Nuance Parfums is a French niche perfumery house whose creative principle can be summed up in one observation: a raw material never has a single olfactory color. Vanilla is not only gourmand; it can be leathery, smoky, milky, or dry depending on the light that passes through it. Each perfume is therefore conceived as a chromatic variation and entrusted to a different perfumer. The fragrances are 20% concentrated eau de parfums, made in France.

An opening of Bourbon vanilla and Somali wood

The house places Bourbon vanilla absolute and a vanilla infusion in the top notes, where most compositions reserve it for the base. The opening is therefore immediately vanilla, rounded, without a detour through citrus. Beside it, Somali wood essential oil establishes from the first minute a dry and resinous line that prevents the sugar from settling alone.

A heart of black pepper and Jamaican rum

The heart works the contrast. Black pepper essential oil marks the surface with a dry and spicy grain, while the Jamaican rum CO2 extract brings the liqueur facet of the perfume: a brown, jammy, slightly fermented alcohol, which darkens the vanilla instead of softening it. Indian papyrus essential oil draws the line between the two and introduces the first frankly woody note.

A base of tonka bean and fractionated patchouli

The base doubles the method of the top: tonka bean appears twice, in absolute and in infusion, for an almond and cut hay effect that rounds without lightening. Fractionated patchouli closes the composition. Fractionated, that is, stripped by distillation of its camphoraceous and earthy facets, it retains only the velvet and the depth, and gives the perfume its final definition.

The house's gesture

Two materials of Vanille Ébène are used in double, in two different forms of extraction: vanilla in the top, absolute and infusion, tonka bean in the base, absolute and infusion. The absolute brings the power and the line, the infusion brings the sweetness and the binder. This mirror construction explains the sensation claimed by the house: nothing suddenly tips over, everything densifies.
