Parfumeur | Rania Jouaneh
Veliahtte by Rania J is a unisex smoky citrus woody extrait de parfum, composed by Rania Jouaneh. It is the house's third extrait de parfum, after Shah'ryar and Samar Kand.
A perfumer who came late, the granddaughter of a spice merchant
Rania J is the house of Rania Jouaneh, who is both its founder and nose. Her journey can be summarized in a few facts she tells herself: the granddaughter of a Middle Eastern spice merchant and the daughter of an entrepreneurial father, she grew up between Jordan, Morocco, and France. She did not enter perfumery through the usual path: at thirty-nine, after a career in completely different fields, she followed a childhood passion and enrolled in the Cinquième Sens school in Paris. Her way of composing can be summed up in one sentence, her own: "I put my whole self into my creations. My perfumes are my way of connecting with others, where the olfactory experience invites us to explore light and shadow, the mystery of the unknown."
An opening of bergamot, sweet orange, lemon, and lavender
Three citrus fruits, bergamot, sweet orange, and lemon, open with a frank and luminous radiance. Lavender connects them with an aromatic thread, slightly camphorous. This is the clearest part of the perfume, designed to contrast with what follows.
A heart of incense, myrrh, beeswax, cinnamon, cedarwood, and guaiac wood
Incense and myrrh rise in smoky wisps without extinguishing the citrus: light and smoke coexist. Beeswax brings a powdery, soft, and honeyed accord, which the house places at the center of the perfume's elegance. Cinnamon warms the whole, while cedarwood and guaiac wood define its dry structure.
A base of agarwood, patchouli, sandalwood, amber, and musk
Agarwood forms the soul of the base, supported by the earthy note of patchouli and the creaminess of sandalwood. Amber and musk round off the trail. This is what the house calls its deep and magnetic signature.
The house's approach
Veliahtte rests on a deliberate contrast: four fresh notes at the top, then two smoky resins and two woods in the heart, without one erasing the other. The link between the two is beeswax: a powdery and warm material that softens the smoke and prolongs the clarity of the citrus. The name comes from the Turkish word veliaht, "crown prince," but the perfumer specifies that the perfume is not about heritage: it evokes the courage to move forward and fully become oneself.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who love woody perfumes with oud but are looking for a luminous opening rather than a dark one. It is an autumn and winter perfume, to be worn from day to night; concentrated as an extrait, it settles with restraint, two sprays are enough. Veliahtte Rania J will appeal to those who like to see smoke pierced by light.
