A perfumer from art history

Francesca Bianchi is a self-taught Italian perfumer. Graduated in art history in Florence, she worked in art book publishing before founding her house in Amsterdam in 2016, after reading a book on natural perfumery. She composes each formula by hand in her laboratory — a process that can take from six months to four years, sometimes longer — before entrusting its production to a small Italian artisanal company. The house operates without investors or a marketing plan. Her perfumes are nicknamed “Liquid Emotions”, and her motto is three words long: “Everything is personal.”

An opening of green mandarin

Green mandarin and bergamot open on a tart and short citrus. It is the only freshness in the perfume, and it does not last: the dark fruit arrives quickly.

A heart of plum and heliotrope

Plum brings a dark, candied, almost alcoholic fruit. Heliotrope adds its almond and powdery vanilla, and makes the connection with the gourmand base.

A base of oud and caramel

Oud arrives smoky, resinous, medicinal. Caramel settles next to it, leather extends the animalic, vetiver dries it out and Tolu balsam brings its vanilla resin.

A caramel right next to an oud. Oud usually calls for rose, saffron or sandalwood — noble materials that keep it away from the food register. Caramel does the opposite: it pulls the wood towards dessert, without ever drowning it in it. It is this contrast that gives the perfume its title.
