Wood Whisper by OJAR is a woody, powdery, amber eau de parfum, unisex, created by Jordi Fernández. It uses two different ambers in its base alone — white amber and ambergris — which the same word covers even though they have nothing in common.

A house born from the incense of Dhofar

OJAR is an Omani house founded by Sheikha Hind Bahwan. The name comes from HOJARI, the most renowned quality of frankincense in the world, harvested in the mountains of Dhofar. The founder summarizes her project in one sentence: “OJAR is a fusion of East and West — I have brought together the best know-how from each region”. The catalog is organized into six collections by material, three of which come from Oman — Dhofar incense, Jebel Akhdar rose, and Rustaq honey — complemented by sandalwood, musk, and oud. The formulas are entrusted to perfumers from around the world: Dalia Izem, Gaël Montero, Jordi Fernández, Michel Girard, Nanako Ogi.

Two materials, and neither is fresh. The rose — one of the house's six founding materials — opens full and honeyed; the plum answers it with a dark, jammy, almost liqueur-like fruitiness. No citrus, no spices: the perfume already starts dense.

The sandalwood — one of the house's six founding materials — is the subject of the perfume: it is what gives it its creamy and lactic texture. The violet adds its green and slightly metallic powder, the cashmere wood a soft, cottony woodiness. Three materials very close to each other: the heart is a gradient rather than a contrast.

A base of white amber, vanilla, ambergris, and musk

Four materials, including two that bear the name of amber. The white amber brings a clear and unsweetened warmth, the vanilla rounds it out, the musk establishes the skin effect. Ambergris, on the other hand, brings something else entirely: a mineral, salty, almost marine note. It is what prevents the dry down from being solely sweet.

The house's approach

The word amber designates in perfumery two unrelated things: on one hand, a warm and resinous accord built from balms, on the other ambergris, a mineral and salty material of marine origin. Wood Whisper uses both of them, at the same time, and that is what explains that the perfume becomes saltier as it dries down even though it started out completely rounded.
