Parfumeur | Dmitry Bortnikov
Yuzu Cologne by Bortnikoff is a niche citrus, woody, and amber perfume extract, unisex, created by Dmitry Bortnikov. Released in September 2025, it contains only six ingredients.
A Thai house where the founder is also the perfumer
Bortnikoff is based in Thailand, in the heart of the agarwood-producing regions. It was founded by Dmitry Bortnikov, a Russian perfumer who is both the owner and the nose of his brand, and who works with wild Thai ouds, sourcing his ingredients at their origin. The catalog is divided into four lines: Entry Level, Main Collection, Colognes and Attars. At this house, the word "cologne" means neither light nor fleeting: it refers to a fresh eau built with the same rare ingredients as its ouds. This one goes even further, as it is in extract concentration. 50 ml bottle.
An opening of yuzu and elemi
The Japanese yuzu opens crisp and sparkling — a citrus fruit that is more bitter and floral than lemon. Elemi, a resin from the Philippines that is both citrusy and peppery, softens it with a balsamic clarity.
A heart of ambergris and Siamese benzoin
Ambergris establishes its marine and mineral facets, and Siamese benzoin its golden, resinous, and slightly vanilla sweetness. An enveloping warmth that contrasts with the freshness of the opening.
A base of Trat oud and vanilla
Trat oud, from the Thai province, brings its resinous depth, and vanilla a soft roundness that smooths it out. In extract concentration, the trail is smooth but powerful.
The house's signature
Six ingredients, two per layer. It is one of the shortest formulas in the catalog, and this minimalism is the subject itself: the house describes a dialogue between light and shadow, citrus and resin, vitality and calm. Each layer opposes a light ingredient to a dark ingredient. The technical key is elemi, placed right at the opening: it is a resin that smells of citrus, therefore the only ingredient capable of belonging to both camps at once. It bridges the gap between the yuzu and everything that follows. Another singularity: ambergris is placed in the heart, and not in the base where one would expect it.
For whom, for what occasions?
Citrusy, woody, and amber, this extract is for those who want the freshness of a citrus fruit with the longevity of an extract. It gives its best from spring to summer, by day as well as by evening, worn equally well by women as by men.
With Yuzu Cologne Bortnikoff, Dmitry Bortnikov makes a Japanese citrus last on a Thai oud.
