Zafar by Oman Luxury is a woody, amber, floral eau de parfum for men and women, created by Pierre-Constantin Guéros. It places Omani frankincense at the heart, surrounded by flowers, where incense almost always serves as the base.

An Omani house that calls upon master perfumers

Oman Luxury is an independent house founded in 2012 by Muatasim, Muadh and Ahmed, then relaunched in October 2020 with a new identity. Its approach is twofold: draw from Omani heritage — the incense route, spices, agarwood — and entrust the formulas to leading French perfumers, among whom Dominique Ropion, Marie Salamagne, Pierre Negrin, Maurice Roucel or Emilie Coppermann. One of the three founders, Muatasim Al Hinai, composes two of the perfumes in the collection himself. The bottles incorporate motifs from Omani architecture and textiles.

An opening of bergamot, pink pepper and rose

Only three ingredients. Bergamot brings the zesty bitterness of citrus, pink pepper its sparkling resinousness, and rose opens the perfume instead of forming its heart, full and honeyed. The opening is clear and bright, without announcing the density that follows.

A heart of Omani frankincense, cinnamon and white flowers

Omani frankincense — the gum harvested by incising the bark of the Boswellia — is the central ingredient, dry and peppery. Cinnamon warms it, while muguet, jasmine and orange blossom surround it with whiteness. Iris root adds its cold powder and thickens the whole.

A base of oud, amber, vanilla and musk

Nine ingredients for the dry down. Oud brings its woody depth — the house gives it as natural and fine —, amber and vanilla their warmth, musk the skin effect. Patchouli, sandalwood, vetiver, musk and tonka bean complete a very tenacious base.

The house's signature

The house presents Zafar as a tribute to the land of incense and its perfumed heritage. Yet perfumery almost always places this resin in the base notes, for its tenacity. Zafar moves it to the heart and surrounds it with white flowers: it is treated as a bouquet and not as a base. The result is audible — the incense arrives earlier, clearer, and it is softened instead of being supported. The house summarizes the approach contrary to usage: a perfume that opens on citrus and spice and closes on sweetness.
