The perfume publisher

Frédéric Malle is not a perfumer: he is a publisher. His model, which he formulated himself: creating perfumes like Gallimard publishes novels. He therefore commissions his fragrances from great noses without budget or time constraints, puts their name on the bottle — an unprecedented move at the opening of the house in 2000 — and, above all, leaves them their royalties: they are not service providers, they are authors. This perfume was born from a collaboration with the Swedish fashion house Acne Studios, which explains why its name bears the name of the publisher.

An opening of aldehydes and mandarin

Aldehydes open the composition with this soapy and sparkling sensation that evokes clean laundry. Mandarin and bergamot add their citrus brightness, without ever taking over.

A heart of peach and five flowers

Peach brings the velvety fruit. Then come orange blossom, violet, rose, lily of the valley, and jasmine: five flowers united in the same layer, which gives the heart its bouquet thickness rather than a soliflore.

A base of musks and sandalwood

Musk dominates, prolonged by sandalwood and Iso E Super, a transparent woody molecule named here in full. Incense, vanilla, and heliotrope round off the whole with a powdery sweetness.

The house's gesture

Aldehydes to make a clothing perfume. The commission came from a fashion house, and the answer is textile: aldehydes give the effect of a fabric coming out of the dry cleaner's, clean and slightly starched. It is a family that has fallen into disuse since the great florals of the last century, brought back to the forefront here for a specific reason.
