Parfumeur | Rosendo Mateu
2010 by Rosendo Mateu is an oriental spicy woody eau de parfum, unisex, created by Rosendo Mateu. The year he received the title of Master Perfumer, told around saffron.
The year of the title
“In 2010, Rosendo received the title of Master Perfumer, in recognition of his dedication, commitment and passion for the art of perfumery”: this is how the house presents this fragrance. At the time, he was with the Spanish group Puig, where he would spend forty years composing for Nina Ricci, Paco Rabanne and Carolina Herrera. The creation is also inspired, it says, “by his travels to Thailand, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates, where he deepened his appreciation for raw materials”. Five years later, he founded his own house in Barcelona with his son Joan.
An opening of aromatic notes, wood, cedar and floral notes
The aromatic notes open green and dry. The woods and the cedar arrive from the very first seconds — it is rare, a wood in the top notes — and the floral notes discreetly illuminate them. The atmosphere is immediately warm and a little solemn.
A heart of spices, resins, balsamic notes and saffron
The spices unfold in “a complex explosion,” according to the house’s words. The resins and the balsamic notes thicken them, and the saffron takes, it says, “center stage, as the dominant and intoxicating element”. It is dense, opulent, and yet held together from start to finish.
A base of musk, dark woods and sweet notes
The dark woods take the place of the resins, the sweet notes soften them and the musk prolongs the whole. The house summarizes: “this fragrance reveals its hidden treasures over time”. The sillage is ample, warm, and lasts a very long time on clothing.
The house’s approach
The wood is placed right from the top, then abandoned in the heart in favor of spices and resins, before returning darker in the base. The composition therefore does not go from light to dark: it darkens, lightens, then darkens again. It is this loop that gives it its relief.
For whom, for what occasions?
For those who love constructed orientals rather than demonstrative ones. Autumn and winter, evenings, dressed-up occasions. It shares a territory with N°4, more resinous and less fruity. Unisex, at 20% concentration.
