A father, suitcases full of bottles

Jupilò is an Italian house founded by Lorenzo Zaccheo — a lawyer, professional sommelier, and former boxer. His passion for perfume comes from his father, a lover of fine things and Paris, who returned from trips with suitcases full of bottles: Annick Goutal, Diptyque, L'Artisan Parfumeur, Caron. "And every time, it was Christmas." The child became a collector, then a student of the art of fragrance, and finally creative director. The house defines itself as a cross between Rome and Paris, with methods borrowed from oenology that his profession as a sommelier explains. Four perfumers created the catalog: Vanina Muracciole, Arturetto Landi, Christian Carbonnel, and Luca Maffei.

An opening of rum and orange

The rum opens almost entirely on its own: a warm, woody, and slightly burning cane spirit. Orange accompanies it with a bright zest that prevents it from being too syrupy at the start.

A heart of cardamom and coriander

The cardamom brings its camphoraceous and lemony freshness, while the coriander brings its green and peppery side. These two spices work against the sugar rather than with it, while the vanilla begins to round it out.

A base of caramel and cocoa

The caramel and cocoa finally establish the gourmandness promised by the name, but late. The patchouli, cedar, and musk provide the woody structure that prevents the base from collapsing into the sugar.

The house's approach

The rum comes first, and two spices are positioned against the sugar. The order is telling: an ordinary gourmand fragrance would place the caramel right away and slip the alcohol into the base, like an effect. Here it is the opposite — the spirit opens, the spices hold the middle, and the confectionery only arrives at the end. The cardamom and coriander are the safeguards: without them, the composition would turn into a spiced rum.
