Fruity Fragrances
Fruity fragrances: almost entirely reconstructed
This is the defining characteristic of this family: with a few rare exceptions, no fruit yields an extract usable in perfumery. Citrus fruits are an exception, as their zest is pressed. For all others—peach, raspberry, lychee, mango—the perfumer builds a accord molecule by molecule. Blackcurrant bud and davana are among the only truly extracted materials.
This freedom explains the diversity of fruity fragrances. They can be tart and sparkling, velvety and milky thanks to the lactones in peach, jammy like plum, or sunny like pineapple. Niche perfumery has considerably elevated the standard of this family, long considered easy.
