Eaux de Parfum
Eau de parfum: the best balance between longevity and sillage
Eau de parfum is the most common concentration in fine perfumery, generally containing around 15 to 20% fragrance oil. It occupies a middle ground between the lighter eau de toilette and the denser extrait de parfum. Once again, these percentages are customary rather than part of any official regulation.
Its main strength is its sillage. Its higher alcohol content compared to an extrait allows it to project more into the air, creating a noticeable trail around the wearer. It is the ideal concentration for a fragrance you want to be noticed, with longevity that lasts through a full workday.
How to choose between eau de parfum and extrait
- Eau de parfum: greater projection and a lighter sillage
- Extrait: greater density and longevity, but a more intimate sillage
- The same fragrance can smell different depending on its concentration
- Eau de parfum is well suited to fresh and floral compositions
