Woody Fragrances
Woody fragrances: the largest family in modern perfumery
The woody family includes compositions whose heart or base rests on materials derived from wood, bark, resin, or roots. Long considered masculine, it is now the most universal and most developed in niche perfumery, precisely because its materials encompass sensations that are very far apart.
A woody fragrance can be dry like cedar, creamy like sandalwood, earthy like patchouli or vetiver, smoky like guaiac, or animalic like oud. These profiles have almost nothing in common in terms of scent: the word "woody" refers to an origin, not a sensation.
How to navigate woody fragrances
- Dry woody fragrances: cedar and cashmere wood, structured and discreet
- Creamy woody fragrances: sandalwood, softer and milkier
- Earthy woody fragrances: vetiver and patchouli, deep and damp
- Smoky or animalic woody fragrances: guaiac, cypriol, and oud, the most intense
An excellent entry point into niche perfumery, as woody fragrances naturally last a long time. Pair them with our spicy and chypre fragrances.
