Perfume Extracts
Perfume extract: the highest concentration
Perfume extract, sometimes simply called “perfume” or perfume extract, refers to the highest concentration of fragrance materials. It generally contains 20 to 40% concentrate, compared to 15 to 20% for an eau de parfum. These thresholds are industry standards rather than legal requirements: no regulations mandate a specific percentage for any given designation.
This concentration changes the fragrance experience. The trail is denser, the longevity significantly longer, and the evolution on the skin more gradual: the base notes appear earlier and last longer. On the other hand, an extract often projects less than an eau de parfum, as the lower proportion of alcohol reduces diffusion into the air. An extract is therefore worn close to the skin, not sprayed in a cloud.
