Musky Perfumes
Musky fragrances: the second-skin effect
The musky fragrance family is based entirely on synthetic molecules. Animal musk, extracted from the musk deer, has disappeared from modern perfumery for species protection reasons. The white musks that replaced it form a very broad family, ranging from the cleanest and cottony to the heaviest and most animalic.
Their appeal goes beyond their scent: musks are excellent fixatives. They bind the ingredients together and prolong the longevity of the entire composition. They also create this so-called second-skin effect: a discreet trail close to the body, which is mainly noticed up close. It is worth noting that some people cannot perceive certain musks—a well-documented phenomenon of specific anosmia.
